Respite on Grace Avenue exists to provide a much-needed break to the caregiver, allowing time for errands, appointments or personal enrichment, and to provide those with the early symptoms of Alzheimer’s or dementia a special time for social interaction, friendship and fun.

Meet DISCIPLE JUDEE!
She is oldest disciple who followed Jesus, the oldest daughter of Zebedee and sister to James and John. Every week she will have something to say about various Scriptures and her place in it, as interpretted by Heart Adult Minister, Joyce Cravens!

Check back to this page each week to hear from Judee!

“Don’t make a spectacle of yourselves!” I yelled at my neighbors. They were taking their friend who was paralyzed to find Jesus so that the friend could be healed. They had just finished breakfast at my house. I overheard them making a plan to lower their friend down through the roof if they had to. They knew there would be a crowd and they really wanted their friend to get to see Jesus. I’m an old stick in the mud so of course I thought their plan was too extreme. Those of us who feel time is crumbling away…well, it was good to see those boys holding firmly to the faith in the Lord Jesus they served. Mark 2:1-12

I couldn’t get out of the boat fast enough when Jesus came by the shore that day, calling out to my brothers, James and John. I’m too old to be jumping in and out of the boat that way. Off they went, immediately. First I have to stand up; snap, crackle, pop. Then I have to step out in the water and wade to the shore. I’m 100 years old! So there I sat, not getting out of the boat. Doesn’t sound like a good disciple, does it? It sure is comfy to stay in the boat. I am advanced in life and that means I hold fast to my faith and to the Christ whom I have known.

Sometimes Jesus requires more of us, no matter our age. Matthew 4:18-22

PURPOSE of HEART Adults
The purpose of HEART Adults is to unify the Senior Adults at Grace Avenue UMC so they can work together toward the mission and ministry of the church.

If you are 55 years old or older, some people call you senior citizens, empty-nesters, senior adults or mature adults. At Grace Avenue, you are HEART Adults! You are "Helpful, Experienced, Active, Reaching-Out and Thankful" working in God's Kingdom. It doesn’t matter what Sunday School class you attend, if you serve on a committee, if you are in the choir or participate in Bible studies...you are all HEART Adults. Yes, you are an “age-group,” like our children or youth, but more importantly, you are a vibrant, contributing part of this Church. HEART Adults at Grace Avenue are devoted to learning, serving, planning and living more active and exciting lives!

Here is a sample of what HEART Adults at Grace Avenue are doing:

Dance with Grace: Dance Classes for Senior Adults
