Director of Modern Worship
Wendy Child came to Grace Avenue UMC in 2019 after spending 2 years in Nashville pursuing her professional music career. Wendy has been involved in music ministry for almost her entire life, and has served as the Worship Pastor for churches in Colorado and Texas. She also has a passion for pop music, and has been creating music for TV/Film for over 10 years.
After going through an intense faith deconstruction and reconstruction of her own, Wendy is passionate about helping people tap into a faith that feels authentic, alive and true. She knows the fear and uncertainty that comes along with loosing her faith, and her greatest desire in ministry is to meet people on that path and make space for all the questions, doubts, hopes, and dreams.
With a passion for progressive theology, Wendy is a part of a music duo called The Outer Banks. The goal of The Outer Banks is to write progressive, inclusive and affirming music for the progressive Christian, the mystic, and the one who finds theirself drawn towards God and spirituality but doesn’t quite know how to label it. Music moves us in a way that nothing else can, and Wendy is passionate about connecting people to the Divine through music.
Wendy is married to her husband Michael, and they have 1 small dog who basically runs the show. Michael was the recording intern in the studio where Wendy recorded her first album when she was in high school, and they have been making music together ever since. You can hear all of Wendy’s music on iTunes, Spotify or any of your favorite listening platforms. She also has a degree in Music Business from Dallas Baptist University. Wendy and her husband live McKinney TX and enjoy hiking, home renovation projects, and good wine.
