Lenten Study:  Divine Disruption – Gospel of John
6 Weeks Beginning February 23rd
The themes of the Lenten season are intended to create an awakening, even if that awakening creates something unsettled within us.

Jesus had many encounters in which the people he met were amazed and bewildered. In each instance, the Divine Disruption by Jesus led to ultimate transformation. What if this same kind of divine disruption is being offered to us?

From Deconstruction to Reconstruction
Led by Laura Byrd
Thursdays @ 7 pm | February 16-March 9
Tom Graves Hall [In Person & Online Available]
Contact lbyrd@graceavenue.org
Many people who grew up in evangelical and other religious spaces have begun to ‘deconstruct’ or pull apart the belief system with harmful theologies in which they were raised. Deconstruction is a necessary part of many- if not most- spiritual journeys, but it was never intended to be the whole journey. This study walks us through a path of deconstruction into a place in which we can reconstruct a faith that leads us to a deeper version of faith and identity.

The Gospel of Luke: A Lenten Study
Led by Christopher Vaughan

Tuesdays @ 7 pm
Tom Graves Hall | February 28-March 28 [In Person and Online available]
Contact christopher@graceavenue.org
Christopher will be leading a 5-week study during lent on the Gospel of Luke based on Adam Hamilton’s new book, Luke. Luke’s gospel was written to the least, the lost, the lowly and the marginalized. It resonated with a community who felt forgotten by God but Jesus came to remind them that they (and we) are not forgotten. Jesus was in relationship with ordinary, flawed, and unexpected people. He met, dined, and traveled with people who were not perfect and who many other people said he shouldn’t be around. Many of them were struggling, some were outsiders or even outlaws. Whoever they were, from those he healed to the outlaws with him at his crucifixion, Jesus brought the good news of God’s kingdom to those who most needed to hear it. I hope you’ll join us as we walk in the footsteps of Jesus once again and remind ourselves during this Lenten season of the powerful way our God reaches those who need it most.

Author Emmanuel Acho believes the only way to cure our nation’s oldest disease- racism- is to start talking to one another…until it gets a little uncomfortable. Uncomfortable conversations are where we grow! In this four-week study, we will learn the basics of anti-racist thinking, answering questions such as  ‘What does it mean to be an ally? Is reverse racism a thing? Why is white privilege just not for the wealthy?’ Come join us on our continued journey as a community moving towards racial justice.

An Invitation to Co-Creation

April 20-May 11 | Tom Graves Hall [In Person & Online Available]
Contact lbyrd@graceavenue.org

Alongside our sermon series this Spring, Laura Byrd will teach a class on how we can be co-creators with our God here and now. Is there a dream that you have not accomplished? Are there things you want to work on inside yourself? You have the power within you, through the Holy Spirit, to co-create with the God of life to reach your fullest potential through letting go, growth, and birthing new energy into your life. In fact, it’s your God given purpose. Won’t you create with me?
