Let’s Face it: A Lenten Study

Join Laura Echols-Richter for this study on Richard Wilke’s book He Set His Face to Jerusalem. Just as Jesus turns his face to the cross, the season of Lent invites us to set our face toward faith in our daily lives.

When God Doesn’t Fix It: Facing the Brokenness in our Lives
2-week Women’s study beginning Feb 26th
Monday mornings 9:15-10:30am -OR-
Monday evenings 7:00-8:30pm
Our lives don’t always turn out the way we plan. There seem to be more detours than straight roads. We face struggles and the reality of broken dreams. During this story, we will focus on Jesus’ journey with the disciples and also engage with the experience of Laura Story (Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter).
Join Laura Echols-Richter and Kristen Lane throughout the season of Lent as we lean into our faith together.
3-Week Study, Begins February 18th
Sundays from 7:00-8:00pm | Room 214
This study will explore the Biblical basis of creation care. This includes exploring Old and New Testament scripture concerning our role in God’s creation and how that impacts how we are called to live our lives. Rev. Mel Caraway will lead this study. He was commissioned as an EarthKeeper by the General Board of Global Ministries of the UMC.
Women’s Night Out: Dinner & Conversation
Thursday, March 22nd from 6:30-8:30pm
Join the women of Grace Avenue for a night of good food and conversation around some of the anonymous women who journeyed with Jesus. As we connect our stories with theirs, we will discuss times of our lives when we feel overlooked, unimportant, bruised and judged by others in our world. This is a great night to invite women from the community to join us!

Acts Part I (Senior Adult Study)
9-Week Study, Begins January 22nd

Join us as we explore the first twelve chapters of the Book of Acts which was written by the same author as the Gospel of Luke. It provides an account of the birth and earliest days of the Christian church. It tells of Peter’s leadership, healing, and experience of new revelation from God. It gives an account of an expansive ministry with the Samaritans, an Ethiopian Eunuch, and Cornelius the Centurion. It is led by Bill D. Ball, Jr. Register in advance to receive class materials.

Gospel of Luke – Part I
Tuesdays, 7:00-8:30pm, Tom Graves Hall, Begins January 23rd
Fridays, Noon–1:30pm, Rm 216, Begins January 26th
Join us for an in-depth study of the Gospel of Luke which is the longest book in the New Testament. Our focus will be on the first nine chapters of this text. This includes Luke’s “orderly account” of the birth of Jesus and John the Baptist, Jesus’ first sermon in Nazareth, the call of the disciples, acts of healing, and the calming of the storm. The class will be led by Bill D. Ball, Jr. Please register in advance to receive the reading materials.
The Book of Esther
3-Week Study, Begins February 4th

This study will focus on the Book of Esther which is found in the Old Testament. We will be joined by Rabbi Heidi Cortez and members of Shir Tikvah, the Reform Synagogue of Frisco. The content in this text inspires the Jewish holiday of Purim which begins this year on Wednesday, February 28. Space is limited for this study. Participants must register in advance. Contact Bill D. Sisters of Scripture – Believing Jesus Study
8-Week Study, Begins January 17th
Join our great community of women as we explore Acts through a study entitled Believing Jesus by Lisa Harper. We will ask what it means to truly believe in Jesus. We will journey with early Christians like Peter, Stephen, and Paul as they boldly discern how their beliefs should impact their actions. Participant study guides are $15. A book with additional study content is optional ($16).
Sisters of Scripture – All Things New (2 Corinthians) Study
8-Week Study, Begins March 21st
Our women’s group invites you to join us for a study of 2 Corinthians entitled All Things New by Kelly Minter. Together, we will seek to recognize how in Christ “there is new creation.” This includes navigating through brokenness and a world that seeks to pull us in many directions. Participant study guides are $16. We will have a pot-luck celebration during the last session.
Gospel of Luke – Part II

This study will focus on chapters 10 to 18 from the Gospel of Luke. These chapters include Jesus teaching and preaching around Galilee, Jesus speaking with Mary and Martha, Jesus healing the woman who could not stand up straight, and Jesus telling parables like the good Samaritan and the lost coin. The class will be led by Bill D. Ball, Jr. Register in advance to receive the reading materials. The Friday class will not meet on March 30.

Grace Avenue offers free classes focusing on grammar, vocabulary, reading, and conversation to those in the community who need to improve their English skills. We also offer Citizenship classes for those preparing to take the United States Citizenship exam.
