"Off Limits Worship" Series
October 5th-25th, 2020
Churches often hear people say, “That’s too political. Stick to the Bible”. The church is told that it has no place in politics and yet we see that Christianity has been weaponized as a political tool. The echoes ring out: “True Christians vote Republican.” or “True Christians vote Democrat.” Both statements are wrong. Our Christianity is not defined by a specific political platform, but that doesn’t not mean that issues deemed “political” are not Jesus issues.
Tending to physical needs like food, shelter and water were Jesus issues. Caring for prisoners and the sick were Jesus issues. Loving our enemies, blessing those who curse us, and welcoming refugees were Jesus issues. So why do we say these things are ‘off limits’ for us to talk about in church?
Over the next four weeks we will read and examine the essence of all four Gospels. In them we will seek to understand what it really means to follow Jesus as our guide through this political season.
