We celebrate with joy the news that more and more people are now receiving a vaccine for COVID-19. We also continue to be in consultation with local medical experts, Grace Avenue leadership, and the office of the Bishop of the United Methodist Church in the North Texas Conference. We are seeking to follow the current guidelines to stay in the spirit of the first Methodist General Rule to “Do No Harm”.

The New Normal

The New Normal
August 2-16, 2020
Everyone seems to be searching for the “New Normal”.  The term “normal” (from norm) is actually a standard of measurement.  To that end, “normal” is whatever is in the center of your life on an ongoing basis.  The Gospel of John begins with the announcement that God has come to dwell right in our midst. “And the Word became flesh and lived among us…”  (John 1:14 NRSV).  Jesus the Christ becomes the “norm” against which our lives are shaped and measured.  This Is why so many things in John’s Gospel happen the middle.  We will examine what can happen when we place Jesus in the center through three great stories at the beginning of John.

We live in a time of instability and unpredictability. Things have shifted in unprecedented ways. It is easy to become paralyzed and lethargic. The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) is a call to action. Jesus’ becomes our solid rock and his words provide a foundation upon which we can live as faithful disciples. In the Sermon on the Mount we will examine three vital teachings which have stayed true through every age and every crisis.
